Promoting sustainable fishing practices in the Province of Buenos Aires: training for small-scale fishers
Project funded by the Argentine Federal Fisheries Council (CFP Resolution No. 18/2025)
The objective of this project is to provide information and training to the small-scale fishing sector on good practices aimed at preserving and sustaining marine resources, environmental protection, and food safety and quality for the population. The focus will be on artisanal fishing operating from the coast of the districts of Villa Gesell, Mar Chiquita, General Pueyrredon, General Alvarado, Lobería, and Necochea — along the Buenos Aires Atlantic coast. The social and economic relevance of this sector has increased as a result of successive economic crises. Furthermore, given that the actors involved in small-scale fishing can and should play relevant roles in the management, conservation, and protection of marine resources and their ecosystem services, the training sessions aim to promote participatory management of knowledge and information. In this regard, the development of thematic agendas that respond to the concerns and needs of the sector will be encouraged, thereby establishing and promoting links between science, academia, and local knowledge, with the goal of achieving sustainable small-scale fisheries. Development period: 2025–2026.
