History

The research group constitutes the Paleoecology and Palynology Laboratory (PPL), which is a unit of scientific research, specialized in recent pollen-vegetation relationship and Late-Quaternary palynology and paleoecology. The PPL was formalized in 1992 in the Biology Department, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales (FCEyN) of the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (UNMDP). Since its creation, the efforts of the PPL have been focused on both research and postgraduate training in modern and Late-Quaternary palynological analysis. The members of the PPL are linked to the Biology Department and the Coastal Geology and Quaternary Institute (FCEyN-UNMDP) by the teaching activity, and it is with this activity that we have articulated the research. In the case of undergraduate teaching, we participate in the following degree courses: Plant Biology, Epistemology and History of Science, General Geology, Introduction to Biology, Vascular Plants, Paleobiology and Environmental Geomorphology. In recent years, we have organized and participated in postgraduate coursesrelated to the Late-Quaternary palynological analysis in the FCEyN of the UNMDP, the Universidad Nacional del Sur (Bahía Blanca), Universidad Nacional del Centro (Olavarría), the Argentine Paleontological Association (A.P.A.), Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). We organized the IX and XIV Argentine Symposium on Paleobotany and Palynology in 1994 and 2009, respectively in Mar del Plata city.
