History
The research group was created within the IIMyC and the Department of Marine Sciences, Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, UNMdP, in 2018 with the objective of addressing new questions related to the dynamics and effects of contaminants in a changing environment. This group proposes the study of the interaction between natural and anthropogenic stressors in predominantly aquatic ecosystems, as well as the development of cost-effective tools for their assessment and/or mitigation/remediation. In this sense, the group's work focuses primarily on understanding the fate, dynamics, and effects of both classical and emerging contaminants under the influence of natural stressors such as salinity, temperature, UV radiation, among others, considering different spatio-temporal scales. Currently, the group includes researchers trained in the areas of Ecotoxicology, Physiology, and Environmental Chemistry, which allows for the generation of a multidisciplinary discussion field that favors the training of professionals in the area of Environmental Sciences. Likewise, the group has members belonging to other departments and/or institutes (Dr. Cesar Pegoraro, CEDEAC, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, FCEyN-UNMdP; Dra. Francesca Mitton, CONICET-INIDEP), favoring interdisciplinarity and collaboration among different local research centers/institutes. The group also works in collaboration with other researchers from other universities, research centers, and national companies. Internationally, the participation of its members in the REMARCO Network (Research Network on Marine-Coastal Stressors in Latin America and the Caribbean) in the microplastic pollution component stands out.
