FRESHWATER AND COASTAL ECOSYSTEMS FROM ARGENTINA: THEIR MAIN PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL AND BIOTIC PARAMETERS RELATED TO WATER QUALITY.
Abstract:
The present research will continue those begun in 2003 with the purpose of evaluating the water quality of continental and coastal environments from Argentina by means of the estimation of physical, chemical and biotic parameters. As microphytobenthos concerns, after characterizing its community structure at Los Padres Lake during an annual cycle (EXA 582/12), and studied the epipelic algal colonization using artificial substrates (EXA 673/14), the effect of shading produced by macrophytes over these algae will be evaluated by means of an in situ experiment. Related to coastal environments, given that bacteriological analyses from recreational waters near the Treatment Plant of Mar del Plata sewage effluents were carried out before the installation of the Submarine Emissary (EXA 582/12), and that during the present project (EXA 673/14) the designed activities could not be performed, because of the delay in the star
t up of the emissary, it is proposed to carry out the bacteriological monitoring during summer 2016 and 2017. It is of our concern to carry out this research proposing a comparative framework within the regional limnology.
Key words: bacteria – microphytobenthos – continental and coastal waters – water quality.
