History
The Plant Biology and Ecodiversity Group was established in 2021 (according to regulation OCAN°2379-FCEyN-UNMdP), arising from the interest of researchers and research projects on morphology and anatomy of native plants carried out at the Botany Laboratory of the Department of Biology. This group includes researchers trained in various branches of botany who work at the FCEyN of UNMdP as well as at institutes with double or triple affiliation based at UNMdP (CONICET-CIC). Thus, the group continues a long tradition of studies in plant anatomy, which has provided a space for numerous undergraduate and doctoral theses with an emphasis on knowledge of the native flora. Furthermore, through collaboration among different researchers, the study of plant diversity and ecology is approached both in southeastern Buenos Aires province and in other biogeographic regions of the country. The training of human resources, both completed and ongoing (research internships, undergraduate thesis students, doctoral students, etc.) across various research lines ranging from the anatomical dimension of botany to landscape studies, has allowed the publication of their results in various national and international journals and scientific meetings. Additionally, the interrelationship among plant communities, plant-animal relationships, invasive species, cultivation and propagation of native plants, soil geochemical dynamics and their link with vegetation, as well as the socio-ecological dynamics of the territory and biodiversity conservation, constitute the thematic axes that permeate the disciplinary work of this group. Furthermore, the members of this group participate in and coordinate various outreach activities and projects related to environmental education, as well as those aimed at the public dissemination of science on general botany topics, both in southeastern Buenos Aires province and in other regions of the country.
Group Code of Conduct:
The group promotes a respectful, collaborative, and interdisciplinary work environment, where diversity of trajectories, perspectives, and experiences is valued. We encourage interactions based on dialogue, empathy, and mutual respect, always striving for an inclusive and caring environment for all people. We work responsibly in our academic practices and in the management of information. We believe that a climate of trust and care is essential to strengthen learning, research, and teamwork.
